GM Towers back in San Diego and scouting….

During the game between Japan and South Korea, ESPN interviewed Padres’ GM Kevin Towers about the WBC and the players from the Padres who have or are still competing in the Classic. Though, no Padres are on Japan or South Korea which leads me to believe Kevin is scouting. I was very impressed with the lefty Ryu for the South Koreans who pitched on Sunday night against Mexico. Ryu who started the game, showed some stuff and is legit.

As for the Padres, the prospects are making some noise. I am specifically speaking about Kyle Blanks, Chad Huffman, Wil Venable and Drew Macias. Among them all, Blanks is making the most noise and it’s about time the Padres Front Office took into consideration about moving Blanks to the outfield. There are teams in the MLB that need a 3rd baseman and the Padres should trade from strength. In any given free-market, commodities are well sought after and it’s time to capitalize. The Angels, Astros, Red Sox, Yankees, and Phillies are teams that I think would like to have a 3rd baseman. Soon, perhaps after a third of the season I expect Brian Giles to be traded to allow Chad Huffman and Wil Venable to play with the ballclub.
