A record crowd for Petco Park on Opening Day was on hand to watch the Dodgers defeat Padres by the score of 4 – 1. The Dodgers jumped on Padres P Jake Peavy immediately in the top half of the 1st inning for a 2 – 0 lead. In the bottom half, the Padres manufactured a run to cut the lead in half. Though after that, Dodgers CF Matt Kemp made the play of the game with a diving catch of a line-drive off the bat of Padres CF Jody Gerut. Then in the top of the 7th, Kemp send a blast into deep center field for a homer. The Padres had many opportunities to close the gap or go ahead. But 3B Kevin Kouzmanoff failed to come through with bases loaded and with two men aboard in two occasions.

Dodgers’ CF Matt Kemp as he made an outstanding diving catch to his right and blasted a deep homer to center field to pad the lead to 4 – 1.
