The Padres and Mariners 1st official game of Spring Training 09 ends up in a tie. What did you expect ? These two franchises did not actually set the league on fire last year. Afterall, two of the three worst franchises for 2008 Season trained in Peoria. Well, that’s last year and this is a brand new year !

• Padres P Cesar Carrillo gave up 2 walks and earned run in one inning. Curious to hear the reports from the Baseball Operations on Carrillo’s showing today.
• Padres C Henry Blanco flexed his muscles and went deep. A major upgrade from the Barrett/Bard tandem.
• Padres P Matt Buschmann struck out 2 batters in one inning. Buschmann is my darkhorse selection to make the starting pitching staff.
• Padres P Nick Schmidt pitched one scoreless inning. Another prospect which I am curious to hear the reports from the Baseball Operations.

On Friday, it’s off to Goodyear and play the hosting Cleveland Indians in their new spring training digs.
