As you can see the past two weeks I have been very inconsistent with my posts on this blog. There was a reason why, as my cousin’s husband had lost the battle against leukemia and died a year after he was diagnosis with the fatal disease. Who is that person ? Robert Corrales, the Ex-Pepperdine Wave shortshop in the 70’s who played with Ex-Phillies 3b coach Steve Smith. I attended the services yesterday in the San Fernando Valley where I was born as well. Literally, hundreds of people attended the funeral services for Robert Corrales as he had a huge impact on hundreds of people lives during his time on this fine planet earth. Baseball was Robert’s life outside being a Sheriff Deputy and one of his sons Josh, is currently a freshman on the California State University, Long Beach baseball team. Anyhow, this world has lost one damn good man who not only cared about family, but also had the passion and love to give back to baseball as a coach in youth leagues. Here’s a wonderful article on Robert Corrales, may he rest in peace.
During the reception yesterday for Robert Corrales, several of my cousins had approached me and broke the news on Manny Ramirez. I, being a Padres fan and them (cousins) being Dodgers fans had several interesting conversations. Needless to say, I was being hammered about how the Dodgers stomped on my Padres and I took it in stride with a kind rebuttal. The fact, the Padres had lost 4 in a row against the Dodgers just recently. Out of those FOUR games, only one game could be classified as a royal stomp. Those THREE other games the Padres had opportunities to win the games. So in effect, I told my cousins if the Dodgers can’t beat the Padres more decisively with Ramirez, Oh My ! How things are going to be for the next 50 games ! For clarity purposes, 50 games is nearly a THIRD of a season. On that note, my cousins had nothing to say and let’s begin the chase now…
I am glad to see the Padres pull one out against the D’Backs on Thursday, though I didn’t hear about it until early this morning. On the same token, when I was in the Valley last night I had to watch the Dodgers game and the Bums were up by the score of 6-0 in the top of the 4th. I turned the TV off and decided to leave town for the ride back to Paradise – San Diego -. Guess what ? The Dodgers lost their 1st HOME GAME of the year and the 1st GAME without Manny Ramirez ! Oh My ! Things are going to be very interesting in the next 49 games ! Man-Roids ! Man-Roids !
In Memory of Robert Corrales, whom I’d shared many moments with him throughout my lifetime during the Holiday’s like Christmas and Thanksgiving talking about sports and watching games on those days. I will pay a tribute to him with the following video, as Robert truly enjoyed listening to Kool & The Gang. With that being said, here is a music video on Kool & The Gang, titled ‘Hollywood Swingin’.
