Paid Admission…Not Worth It…

Even I had high hopes for this 2011 San Diego Padres and on paper the line-up looked better than last year’s despite losing Adrian Gonzalez. During the offseason Padres GM Jed Hoyer was overly concerned that last year’s team had OVERACHIEVED and would not duplicate the same results for 2011. Okay, I can buy that assessment, but when Hoyer assembled the 2011 Padres on paper the roster seem to be an upgrade. BUT BUT, two months into the 2011 season this Padres team has UNDERACHIEVED despite the massive roster changes. This does not bold well for the front office nor the season ticket holders, including myself who have been a season ticket holder since 1998. Don’t get me wrong, I am willing to pay a good price of admission to see a professional baseball game. What I do not want to see is a bunch of players whining about Petco Park. Any professional ballplayer SHOULD be able to hit in any ballpark, isn’t that why they are PROFESSIONALS? Evidently, the opposing TEAMS have no issues hitting in Petco Park, neither have ex-Padres like C Ramon Hernandez, OF Scott Hairston, INF Jerry Hairston Jr, #B Kevin Kouzmanoff, and Xavier Nady just to name a few.

So where does GM Jed Hoyer go from here now, I suggest tear up the team immediately. We can ill afford to lead the league in strikeouts in a contact ballpark. This current Padres ballclub has to many holes and there are a few players on the starting 8th that should be on the trading block. To name a few, LF Ryan Ludwick and 3B Chase Headley, it has been 3 years now and it appears Headley will not match the power Kouzmanoff. Also, let’s put out Heath Bell and hope the Padres can receive a few good major league ready prospects. Let’s not wait til June or July, show the season ticketholder fan base that this new Ownership and Front Office wants to win at all costs. We, season ticketholders are fed up with players whining about Petco Park especially these times of economic windfall. But then again, perhaps the sense of entitlement has creep up in the professional ranks where it’s cool to whine about a ballpark. Times are about to change soon, the question is when will GM Hoyer pull the trigger.

It’s about time the Padres Front Office has called up OF Aaron Cunningham who has raked the ball last year during his tenure with the major ballclub. I could not understand why Aaron was not called up earlier only two things transpired over my mind.

  1. Cunningham is not Mgr Buddy Black man and has fell out of favor for Denorfia and Tekette.
  2. Padres Front Office wants to showcase other OF’s for potential trade prospects in mid-June or early-July.

Well as this post title sums it up, I have personally stayed away from Petco Park since early May. Why? Because I find it not worth my time to support a team that continues whine about the ballpark dimensions. I can hear enough whining at work with people who complain about salary, working conditions and hours. The last thing I want to hear when I go out for entertainment is a bunch of so called professionals whining about their working conditions. With this being said, here is a befitting blues music video by Steve Miller band titled “No More Doggin”. That’s right boys, no more doggin and suck it up, we are done with your whining.
