Ahhh !! If you were just reading the headlines of this article I bet, you thought the Padres were doing well with their starting pitching staff. Honestly, it’s not the pitching that is the problem, it’s the fielding and offense. Go figure ! Who would have thought of that during the winter while Padres GM Jed Hoyer assembled this team. Hoyer was so concerned about a drop-off in performance so went out the door the Eckstein’s, Hairston’s, and so on. This season was all focused on the big three Headley, Hundley and Venable, and so far a MAJOR DISAPPOINTED in their overall performances (offensively and defensively). What this team has shown is the lack of focus and concentration as they continue to make critical errors on the field and strikeout far too much for a professional baseball team. Ohh Don’t give me that “Petco Park” excuse. If the team is leading the league in strikeouts, IT DOESN’T MATTER what PARK they play in. Simply they will not HIT at all. It’s very sad to see a team leading the league in strikeouts when none of them are actually legit power hitters if you exclude LF Ryan Ludwich. All I know is, if I owned the team I surely would not pay 2 million dollars to any player who can not sock the ball out of any ballpark. In a nutshell, I guess the Padres are the Chicago Cubs of the west. The difference is hardcore fans do show up for the Cubs games and in San Diego, well I can’t answer that.
Now it’s onto Boston to play against the San Diegan born 1B Adrian Gonzalez, whom the Padres Front Office did not want to invest their funds with. To be quite honest, it’s going to be hard to watch the games. Well, it has been up to this point and playing against Adrian Gonzalez is only going to pour salt over the open wound. Maybe, the Padres will score a few runs to make the games respectable, but I highly doubt that. With every potential loss in the series against the Boston Red Sox’s, Padres fans just let it slide. The season is slipping away quickly and it’s almost 4th of July, time to hit the beach. As I close out this posting here is a blues video by blues artist Eddie Martin Band called “Let It Slide”.
